Former Borabu Member of Parliament Ben Momanyi has criticised Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo’s administration, accusing it of failing to deliver meaningful development projects and leaving the county behind.
Speaking at a church fundraising event in Ibara, Nyamira County, Momanyi said residents have not seen the progress they expected. He said they deserve better services and tangible projects that improve their living standards, and he challenged the county leadership to ensure public resources translate into visible changes in people’s lives.
Momanyi said the county government should be judged by what it has achieved on the ground, including completed projects and the services delivered to communities.
“Residents expected their leaders to address local challenges and initiate projects that would stimulate economic growth, improve infrastructure and create opportunities for the people,” he said.
Momanyi maintained that development must remain a priority for elected leaders, noting that the public wants practical results rather than promises. He urged the county leadership to reflect on its record and address the areas where progress has been slow.
He also reminded leaders of the responsibility’s devolution placed on them.
“Since the introduction of devolution, county administrations have been entrusted with responsibilities in areas such as county health services, agriculture, local roads, water services and other functions assigned under the Constitution,” he said.
According to Momanyi, the effectiveness of county leadership is therefore judged by the availability and quality of these services, as well as the completion of projects meant to meet community needs.
Momanyi said residents, particularly those in rural areas, look to their leaders for projects that improve livelihoods and expand economic opportunities.
“County governments play an important role in bringing services closer to the people, especially in rural communities where access to infrastructure and public services can influence economic growth,” he said.
He added that when projects are delayed or fall short of expectations, residents are right to question their leaders’ priorities and demand an explanation on how public resources are used. He challenged the county leadership to address these concerns and ensure development initiatives respond to the needs of the people.
Momanyi said he will vie for the Nyamira governorship in the 2027 General Election.
He urged residents to register as voters and to elect leaders with vision who can bring development to the county.
Momanyi lost to Nyaribo in the 2022 election.
