Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has taken his battle to the grassroots, systematically building a nationwide coalition that has the political establishment paying attention as the 10-month countdown to the 2027 general election begins.
During recent appearances in Kajiado North, Gachagua declared the country needs a “reset” to restore constitutionalism. Far from a standard political rally, his stops at Kware Stage and Gataka formed part of a calculated post-impeachment strategy. Gachagua is framing his 2027 ambitions not as a personal grievance, but as a crusade to establish Kenya’s “Sixth Administration” and correct the failures of the current government.
A critical component of this strategy is Gachagua’s focus on national issues that unite frustrated Kenyans. He sharply criticized President William Ruto’s administration regarding the controversial ‘Kazi Majuu’ program, accusing the government of misleading youth into overseas work, including those now stranded in Russia. By seizing on public anxiety over youth employment and national credibility, Gachagua is attempting to expand his influence beyond his Mount Kenya base. As coalition-building intensifies across Kenya, Gachagua’s movement from Mathira to a national stage is rapidly shifting the country’s political arithmetic.
