Speaking at the launch of the training program, Internal Security and National Administration Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo urged government officers to prioritize the security of their digital records and data. Dr. Omollo noted that while adopting technology has significantly improved service delivery across various government sectors, it has also introduced new vulnerabilities that must be addressed.

“The adoption of cloud technology is no longer an option but a necessity for governments, businesses and organizations globally. However, with these advancements come heightened risks to data security, privacy, and integrity. Cyberattacks are becoming more sophisticated, and the need for robust cloud security measures have never been more critical. The digital transformation of our public services has brought about unprecedented efficiency and convenience. This training program with Huawei is a crucial step in equipping our officers with the necessary skills to protect our systems from cyber threats,” Dr. Omollo stated.

The collaboration with Huawei includes comprehensive training on cloud computing security, focusing on best practices for data protection, threat detection, and response strategies. The training is part of a broader initiative to ensure that government departments are resilient against cyber-attacks and can maintain the integrity of their digital infrastructure

According to Huawei Kenya’s Deputy CEO for Public Affairs, Mr. Steven Zhang, the collaboration, aimed at improving Kenya’s cloud computing security, builds on previous trainings on cybersecurity governance. It is part of a long-term collaboration on, among others areas, training of government officers to improve their knowledge and skills as well as enhance implementation of international cybersecurity standards.

“The company would “always provide secure, trustworthy and highquality products whilst improving the capabilities of our people and our partners, because cybersecurity is always evolving and we want to help build capacity in Kenya.” Remarked Mr. Zhang

This initiative comes at a time when cybersecurity has become a global priority, with governments and organizations recognizing the need to protect critical digital assets from potential breaches. The collaboration between the Kenyan government and Huawei is expected to set a benchmark for cloud computing security in the public sector.
