Democratic Party of Kenya (DP) Vice Chairperson in charge of Strategy Wambugu Nyamu has decried wanton wastage of public resouces under the guise employees’ empowerment.
Nyamu avers that despite billions in Donor funding and county allocation being pumped into counties, there is nothing to show for it.
Most affected is the Agriculture sector which is the backbone of the country’s economy.
“The country is still not food secure and cost of basic food is high. This is despite the enormous resources pumped every year,” Nyamu lamented at the weekend during a KTN News Live show held at Dedan Kimathi University near Nyeri town.
Nyamu who is seeking to be the third Senator for Nyeri County added that currently, of the Donor funding and government allocation, most of the money is used for employees personal emoluments, staff seminars, food and beverages, workshops, travelling and accommodation, most of which are not beneficial to the general public.
He vowed to change the scenario once elected saying, “As your senator, I will make a law that limits the above extraneous expenditure to 30%, so that 70% goes to field extension services, demonstrations, research and development”.
He added, “Instead of unaudited freebies, I will advocate and make laws for regional subsidies of inputs through local suppliers by county governments, far from the current issuance of freebies that has been used to steal public funds”.
Nyamu who is the C.E.O of Nyeri town based Ekas Technologies Limited and farmer in various subsectors, is expected to face off in the capture of the senatorial position, with among others former Nyeri Women Rep Priscila Nyokabi, former Mukurwe-ini MP Kabando Wa Kabando, businessmen Wahome Wamatinga, Newton Muraya and Steve Nderi.
