Governor Ann Waiguru Unveils Major Milestones in Kirinyaga’s 2024 State of the County Address

In a remarkable address at the 2024 State of the County Address (SOCA), Governor Ann Waiguru highlighted the substantial progress made in Kirinyaga County, demonstrating her administration’s commitment to transforming the region into a thriving hub of growth and development.
The County Aggregation and Industrial Park (CAIP) is 37% complete, with agro-processing factories focused on tomatoes, avocados, coffee, and dairy—ushering in a new era of industrialization and economic growth for the county. The construction of 18 modern markets has been fully funded and completed by the county government, with an additional 3 ESP markets currently underway to boost trade and support local businesses.
The dairy sector has seen remarkable growth, with the installation of 10,000-liter milk coolers for Ngariama and Kirinyaga Dairy Co-ops. The county also celebrated the launch of Rung’eto Yoghurt, which is already producing and selling 1,000 liters per day. Kerugoya Level 5 Hospital, now fully operational, serves over 600 outpatients and 400 inpatients daily, providing critical healthcare services to the people of Kirinyaga.
The county has completed 20 health centers, including 4 new dispensaries in Kiandieri, Kiandai-Baragwi, Ng’othi, and Kiandai-Kiiine, expanding healthcare access across the region. A total of 1,205 Community Health Promoters have been onboarded and are now receiving a monthly stipend of Ksh. 5,000, further enhancing community-based healthcare delivery. Kianyaga and Kimbimbi Hospitals are undergoing significant upgrades from level 3 to level 4, with work at 70% complete, aimed at decongesting Kerugoya Level 5 Hospital and improving service delivery.
Cabro paving of key towns and urban centers, including Kerogoya, Kutus, Kagio, Wang’uru, Sagana, Kagumo, and Kianyaga, has been completed, enhancing the county’s infrastructure and facilitating smoother transportation. Own-source revenue has doubled through automation, supporting key development projects and reinforcing the county’s financial independence. In a pioneering move, over 14,500 ECDE learners were issued with free uniforms, setting a new precedent in Kenya’s education sector. Bursaries worth KSh. 166 million have been allocated this year to support students in need, ensuring that education remains accessible to all.
These remarkable achievements are a testament to the strong partnership between the county government and the County Assembly of Kirinyaga, as well as the unwavering support of the residents of Kirinyaga. Together, they have made these strides possible, propelling the county towards a brighter future.Kirinyaga is rising. With a robust plan in place and an empowered community behind it, the county is on a path to continued prosperity and development.
