Governor Njuki: Itugururu Agriculture Training Institute To Transform Agriculture In The County

The newly established Itugururu Agriculture Training Institute (IATI) in Chuka/Igambang’ombe Constituency will greatly transform agriculture in the county and the surrounding regions.
Speaking during the inauguration of the institution’s board of management, installation of the principal and launch of the county farmers’ training expo in collaboration with Remington Africa and other partners, Governor Njuki said farmers need to be equipped with modern farming technology for better yield.
The county boss said IATI will improve the livelihood of the county residents by providing sustainable and competitive agricultural knowledge to enhance food security, promote agribusiness and also create direct employment opportunities for both skilled and nonskilled people.
“Farmers will be coming here for short, medium and even long-term agricultural courses which will greatly promote agriculture in our county,” said Njuki.
He faulted some local politicians politicizing the establishment of the institution and asked them to focus on issues that promote the lives of the locals and not only focus on 2027 elections.
The county chief said agriculture is one of his key government departments because it directly impacts the lives of the people and will continue to allocate more resources to achieve more.
He noted that since the launch of subsidized Artificial Insemination (AI) four years ago, over 50, 000 successful inseminations have been done leading to an increment in milk production from 25 million litres five years ago to 50 million litres last year and the target is to double the amount by 2027.
He said his government has so far installed 25 milk cooling plants reducing wastage and increasing prices of the produce.
He said with the increased milk production and he plans to establish a processing plant for great value addition.
On the lower part of the county, Njuki said he has installed a machine for sorting and packaging green grams in Igambang’ombe ward in Chuka/Igambang’ombe Constituency for value addition and a similar facility will be established in Nkondi ward in Tharaka constituency.
He added that his government has renovated over 70 tea buying centres which include refurbishment of the centres and construction of concrete slabs and will ensure that all the facilities are in good shape by 2027.
On coffee, he said his government continues to modernize the coffee factories by installing solar driers, upgrading water systems, renovating stores, refurbishment of fermentation tanks and digitization of society operations.
Njuki who is serving his second and final term as the county boss asked politicians salivating for the position to give him ample time to serve the people.
He said those thinking that he will quit the county politics in 2027 will be shocked and that he will ensure that he leaves the county in the right hands.
“I will remain around and will greatly influence my predecessor because I would like my people to continue getting good services,” he said.
The County Assembly Speaker, Mr John Mbabu, Mugwe ward representative Jacob Kiriko and nominated representatives, Ms Wanja Karuku and Zachary Njagi pledged to support Njuki to deliver developments to the people.
Mbabu asked Chuka/Igambang’ombe Member of Parliament Patrick Munene to sport fighting the governor andnd concentrate with his responsibilities.
“Every elected leader should concentrate on his/her responsibilities because voters are not interested in fights but delivery of services,” said Mr Mbabu.
