Tharaka Nithi governor Muthomi Njuki has commissioned a Microwave waste management incinerator at Magutuni level 4 hospital in Maara Sub County, in efforts to protect the hospital environs from hazardous Medical waste.
Speaking while at the facility, Njuki said the advanced Medical waste incinerator is able to completely destroy even metallic waste into ash that will then be treated before being disposed.
The governor noted that unlike other health facilities in the County sited in major towns, Magutuni is located in a locality and therefore if its waste disposal is not keenly managed may be a disaster to locals.
Also, the facility that made headlines back in 2018 after videos circulated showing workers washing bloody hospital beddings using hand brushes now has three different laundry machines capable of washing and drying hospital beddings and clothing according to governor Njuki.
Another major face lift in the facility is the installation of Oxygen plant that will now boost that of Chuka County referral hospital that was installed before Covid-19 hit the County.
To cater for infants born in the facility prematurely, Njuki revealed that plans are underway to expand the facility’s nursery unit to accommodate more.
From the hospital’s upgrade, Njuki said the number of patients seeking services and especially those seeking maternity services has shoot up and residents are embracing the facility.
“I have today encountered 5 women who have delivered at the facility unlike before when mothers used to fear Magutuni hospital like plaque from its deplorable state and poor services that were being offered,” Njuki argued.
Outlining these among other development projects he has initiated in Maara during his first term, Njuki hit out at his opponents who have been accusing him of underperformance.
He asked residents to back his bid and re-elect him for the second term in office for more projects.
