Governor Njuki Lead Tharaka Nithi Elected Leaders To Push For Completion Of Stalled Roads

Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki, together with other elected leaders from the county held a crucial meeting with the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport Mr Davis Chirchir to discuss the completion of stalled road projects and the commencement of new infrastructure developments.
The meeting, a direct follow-up to a directive by Deputy President Prof Kithure Kindiki, aimed to address the long-standing delays that have hindered economic growth and connectivity in the region.
Among the incomplete projects is the Chiakariga – Marimanti – Gatunga Road in Tharaka Constituency. The 36-kilometer road, which links Tharaka Constituency to Tharaka Nithi County headquarters in Kathwana town, has remained incomplete despite construction beginning on July 27, 2016.
The Sh1.7 billion project was awarded to Westbuild General Contractors Company, which later sub-contracted it to Super Mega Construction Company.
Initially set for completion in July 2019, the road remains unfinished nearly nine years later, leaving residents frustrated with the unfulfilled promise of better transport infrastructure.
Other stalled roads in Tharaka Nithi include: Chuka – Kaanwa – Keria Road (31 km), launched on May 10, 2015, Chogoria – Weru Road (23 km) whose Construction began on November 22, 2016, Keeria – Maguni – Kathwana Road (32 km) which was started on September 17, 2018.
The meeting was attended by Senator Mwenda Gataya, Women Representative Susan Ngugi, and MPs Patrick Munene (Chuka/Igambang’ombe), Gitonga Murugara (Tharaka), and Kareke Mbiuki (Maara).
The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring the stalled projects are revived and completed while also pushing for the initiation of new road networks to improve accessibility and economic opportunities.
Governor Njuki emphasized that the leaders’ unity in following up on these projects demonstrates a shared commitment to development.
“Road infrastructure is a critical part of our development agenda, and we will ensure these projects are completed to benefit our people,” he stated.
During last month’s meeting in Karen, DP Kindiki urged Governor Njuki to unite all elected leaders from Tharaka Nithi and form a committee dedicated to tracking the progress of stalled and ongoing projects.
The latest meeting with the Roads CS marks a significant step in ensuring that this directive is implemented.
Residents of Tharaka Nithi remain hopeful that the renewed push will finally see these long-delayed road projects completed, unlocking the county’s economic potential and improving transportation across the region.
