Yesterday marked a significant milestone in the journey toward realizing a visionary goal; to see the Archdiocese of Nyeri and its surrounding areas benefit from sustainable and renewable energy through the Solarization Program.
The launch event took place at the Mathari Complex, where the first solar station is set to be established.
Presiding over the event, the Chief Guest, Archbishop Anthony Muheria, assisted by Fr. Charles Kiruri emphasized that the project is designed to support the holistic mission of the Church.
“This project will raise awareness about environmental stewardship. It will serve as a model for other dioceses, integrating energy efficiency with environmental consciousness. Moreover, it presents a cost-saving opportunity, with the savings redirected towards evangelization efforts. It also opens up numerous possibilities for community benefit, particularly for educational institutions, as the site can serve as a practical learning hub for students studying alternative energy sources,” he said.
Mr. Stephen Mutinda, the Project Manager, provided an overview of the project’s implementation framework and expected outcomes.
The initiative will power all facilities within the Mathari Complex and extend its benefits to 15 additional facilities outside the complex. Plans also include the establishment of a car park in the same area.
Dr. Eng. Joseph Njoroge introduced his technical team and encouraged them to approach the work with passion and commitment, emphasizing that their efforts are deeply rooted in service to humanity.
The event was also graced by key stakeholders, including representatives from Starkmacher Impact Africa, contractors, officials from Kenya Power (KPLC) and Nyeri County Government, Deans, Priests as well as staff members from various institutions within the Archdiocese of Nyeri.
