L- R: Madam Jane Kirathi (Guardett) & Madam Beatrice Ndunge Wanyama - KNPSWU lawyer and head of the Legal Department at the Union Headquarters in Nairobi.
By Our Reporter
The Union is mandated to represent its members collectively through company check-off system or via individual membership subscription.
Jane Kirathi is a private security officer that was working as a guardett privately but contributing her monthly Union dues to KNPSWU.
She was wrongly terminated from employment and KNPSWU through its lawyer Madam Beatrice Ndunge Wanyama pursued the matter at Employment and labor relations court (ELRC).
We are glad to inform our members that finally Madam Jane Kirathi has won the case and the employer has been compelled to pay her Kshs 146, 614/= being her final dues.
All this has been made possible by the Union at a cost effective engagement purely based on Kirathi’s membership to the Union.
Handling such matters for Non- Union members remains to be a highly expensive affair with lawyers taking the advantage to exploit those they represent and in most cases leaving them with meager rewards.
