Private Security Officers are in support of the new NSSF deductions with a demand to the Government to first enforce the minimum wage decrees and subsequently the proposed deductions particularly for the lowly paid job cadres.
Led by KNPSWU NATIONAL GENERAL SECRETARY Bro. Isaac GM Andabwa (OGW), the private security workers’representatives held a peaceful procession in Nairobi lodging thier petitions to the Ministry of labor and social protection services, Private Security Regulatory Authority( PSRA), Ministry of Interior National Co-ordination & finally to COTU ( K).
Bro. Isaac GM Andabwa (OGW) reaffirmed the Unions commitment in supporting the Government of the day & COTU (K) to ensure the private security industry is revamped and professionalised.
“The New NSSF deductions is timely and a noble idea that projects at having our members safeguarded at the time of retirement” said Bro. Andabwa.
He further elaborated on the concerted efforts and measures currently being undertaken by, KNPSWU, COTU(K)and the industry regulator ( PSRA) to streamline the sector and address the perennial underpayment, overtime, risk allowance and the general unfair working conditions affecting the private security workers’
“COTU (K) under the stewardship of Dr. Francis Atwoli, NOM( DZA)CBS, EBS together with the PSRA CEO are jointly working towards standardising the private security industry to a better level” said Bro.Andabwa
Apart from minimum wage and overtime enforcement, Bro. Andabwa added that the KNPSWU together with the concerned stakeholders are focusing at ensuring there exists a standard curriculum training manual, that will foster accreditation, ranking and progressive career path growth, a training academy and a professional private security labour export framework.
The Union leader lauded the transformative agenda of Kenya Kwanza Government led by H.E. Dr. William Samoei Ruto, saying that it focuses on empowering the hustlers and those guards fit well within the narrative.
“As a Union we look forward into having an all-inclusive giant private security workers’ SACCO that will instill the culture of saving and borrowing, entrepreneurship and disciplined financial management skills among its members”
He appealed to the private security workers’ to join the Union and make use of the existing structures of leadership right from NEC, respective branch officials, Shopstewards and the National secretariat office in solving industrial disputes and seeking information touching on the sector.
