HIGH FOOD PRICES SHOULD BE A MOTIVATION TOWARDS ELECTING THE RIGHT LEADERS COME AUGUST.
High Food Prices

The prices of food have really gone up. This has resulted in angry Kenyans flooding the social media trying to air their frustrations using the hashtag #lowerfoodprices. Many Kenyans have claimed that they cannot take this anymore. Something has to be done. The government has been blamed for failing to take care of its citizens as most of them now have to survive under the normal three meals per day since they can no longer afford it.
Everyone is affected including citizens living outside the city who have come out to declare that they are facing it even harder due to the drought hitting the northern region of the country. Those living on a daily wage sometimes have to forgo some days without food yet they have to work every day.
As much as Kenyans have expressed their misery through the social media platforms, it has been like a drop of water on the ocean. Taxes still remain high on everyday household goods such as cooking gas, fuel and food. The Kenyan government is focused on bringing back the economy of the country which has been staggering in result to the Covid-19 pandemic at the cost of the Kenyans.
This should be a wakeup call to all Kenyans foreseeing the upcoming general elections. Leadership has an impact and it can turn tables towards bringing out good to the society if practiced well. Political leaders are out there selling out their memoranda with the hope of gaining votes. Kenyans should however be wise or even wiser this time.
Leaders who will work towards securing a promising food secure nation are the leaders the country is in need of. The country needs leaders who will shield them from the price rises by finding out long term strategies to stabilize food prices.
Those strategies can include increased agricultural production, expanding social protection for farmers, eliminating agricultural trade barriers and increasing medium and long term investments in the field of agriculture. Food is basic and should not be hiked regardless of the situation
