Nyeri County Women Representative Rahab Mukami Wachira is optimistic of retaining her seat, courtesy of her development track record in the last five years.
Ms Mukami popularly referred to as Mukami Maendeleo Mashinani was elected after trouncing other contenders where she immediately embarked on establishing various initiatives whose impact has been felt in all corners of the county.
Virtually in every village, they is something that can be associated with her. This is from empowering youth, women, people living with disabilities as well as men.
She have had at least 15 different initiatives, all geared towards uplifting the living standards of the locals. This, she has done through the government funding under National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) and through her personal initiatives of mobilising resources.

Through various initiatives, she has seen hundreds of youth start income generating projects by among other things,ย providing the necessary tools and equipment as well working place.
These include those who have joined trades like hairdressing, shoe shinning and Bodabodas.
Under almost a similar arrangement,ย she has initiated and donates various youth projects like brick making,ย chicken hatching machines as well music equipment.
Further, she has been promoting different talents among the young and old. These include talents in different sporting activities, music, modelling as well as in art.
In schools, she has been involved in food programmes where disadvantaged children are provided with lunch. She has also rehabilitated modern washrooms in numerous public learning institutions.
Through her initiative, hundreds of bright students from needy families have been awarded bursaries and thus able to start and complete secondary, tertiary or university education.
This has also been extended to those with various disabilities who apart from bursaries, they are also issued with tools and equipment that ease their mobility.
Ms Mukami says if elected, she will continue offering support to the Nyeri residents and will see to it that more resources are allocated for maximum benefits to them.
She is battling it with among others, Jubilee’s Njeri Njoori, Ms Jacinta Wahome of The Service Party (TSP), Rose Waikundi of Chama Cha Kazi and Margaret Karungaru Gachagua who is an Independent candidate.
