Nairobi City County gubernatorial candidate Agnes Kagure says she is best suited to lead the country’s capital city as its Chief Executive Officer.
Ms Kagure whose life is a literal meaning of, from rags to riches believes she has what it takes to turn around the city for the benefit of residents, visitors and investors.
She says her experience in life has exposed her to all manner of things and thus she fully understands the need of people of all standings.
To full understand this lady who is yearning to be the forth governor of the county famously referred to as the city in the sun, below is extracts as she narrated to this writer.
Who is Agnes Kagure?
Agnes Kagure is a caring mother, dedicated wife and a passionate leader who is an embodiment of fortune that favors the devoted.
My journey from a job seeking house girl, up the steps of the insurance industry to my present position has enabled me see both sides of life for an ordinary city dweller and that is part of my motivation to lead a transformation that makes life better for every resident.

My drive to become Nairobi’s next governor is motivated by my own personal struggles and the possibility of every resident rising to their highest potential.
Having lived most of my adult life in Nairobi, I can tell for a fact that Nairobi is a city with great potential that has is unfortunately operating below its minimum potential due to lack of direction from the top.
Every Nairobi resident in their mid-ages have nostalgic memories of what a great city the ‘green city in the sun’ was and this is due to the degeneration of essential services into a mediocrity that has now been normalized.
However, all is not lost because once the head is okay, the rest of the body and structures can easily align.
Outstanding achievements
- Rehabilitation and empowerment of street families
- Rehabilitation and business support for ex-sex workers
- Patron of Kenya University Students Organization, KUSO, since 2018
- Support towards formation of Nairobi’s Bodaboda Sacco, the Eminent Sacco, and contributing seed capital during its unveiling
- Support to women’s table banking programs
- Partnerships with Matatu sector players to enhance safety.
- Support to students he-for-she gander parity and peace programs
Priority areas in my manifesto.
- Revamping water supply, sanitation and healthcare for all residents. This also includes empowering Community Health Workers and Volunteers and partnering with informal water suppliers
- Improving safety and security throughout the city; includes lighting up all areas in the city as security drives business
- Expanding manufacturing and entrepreneurship opportunities; aiming to create 200,000 jobs annually
- Reorganising public transport (matatus and bodabodas) to ease movement and reduce time (and money) lost in traffic snarl-ups
- Supporting infrastructure of informal education centres as well as revamping bursary issuance to deserving learners in order to support education.
- Establishing a workable waste management plan complete with trackable waste disposal formula and waste recycling plan – turning wastes into gold
- Enhancing the ease of doing business in Nairobi – streamlining licences and retraining kanjo askaris

I believe we are approaching a decisive point where we have an opportunity to secure our future by electing a leadership we are convinced will work to improve our lives.
Let us not let the campaign hype, tribal groupings and propaganda cloud our vision for a better Nairobi. Let us choose hope over fear and opportunity over lamentations;
Let us choose Agnes Kagure. Tuinue Mtaa, Tujenge Nairobi!
