Othaya constituency Member of Parliament Wambugu Wainaina yesterday pledged to ensure all funds channelled through his office is prudently spent.
The MP said he will be accounting for every coin given to his constituents by the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) saying misappropriation of public funds was a major challenge in prosperity of the country.
Addressing dozens of new referees and coaches who recently underwent training courtesy of the local NG-CDF, the MP disclosed that all projects and activities undertaken by the funds will be made public for the constituents scrutiny.
“On yearly basis, I shall make sure you know how much we got from the NG-CDF board and how every coin was utilised. We must change how public funds are used,” the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) first time lawmaker said.
He spoke during the graduation of 70 coaches and referees from his constituency who were trained by Federation of Kenya Football (FKF).
Wainaina disclosed that this financial year, the area is set to receive a total of Sh138 million which will be used in various activities and projects in the area.
Saying he was not interested in engaging some local individuals who he did not name with their petty politics, Wainaina called on the constituents to be on the look out on What some leaders were doing and analyse whether they were beneficial to them.
He called on Kenyans to demand for public funds accountability.
“I am saying I will account for every shilling from NG-CDF, you should demand for same accountability from the national and county governments as well as your local MCAs,” he said.
Later he disbursed cheques worth Sh2 million Uwezo Funds to 18 registered groups in the constituency.
