The Speaker of Nyeri County Assembly John Kaguchia want Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to explain why the voter’s register has major anomalies.
Voters checking their status are realizing that their details don’t comform with reality as some records show they are registered in far flung areas from where they are registered,ย Kaguchia noted.
Challenging IEBC to explain to Kenyans, Kaguchia wondered whether it was a ploy by some people to rig election in favour of some leaders.
“We want IEBC to come our clearly and explain this problem. Some people who are registered in Nyeri are now said to be registered voters in areas like Wajir. Why is this? Who is behind it? We need a clear answer and let them know that it will not be easy to rig elections,” he said.
Kaguchia spoke yesterday at Kiharo area in Gikondi where he continued to atticulate his manifesto for Mukurwe-ini constituency which he hopes to represent in Parliament after the August 9th General Election under UDA ticket.
He was accompanied by among others, Mr Kinaniri Warui who is the UDA Deputy Governor nominee.
The Speaker said once elected,ย he will ensure that every homestead in the constituency is connected to the national power grid. He said currently,ย about 80 per cent of the population is connected with electricity. He further said that he would involve other stakeholders in addressing the deteriorating education standards in the area as he disclosed that out of about 2,600 candidates who sat for 2021 KCSE, only 300 attained grades that can enable them join universities.
Other issues that he intends to address are availability of water, both for domestic and irrigation and making all roads passable.
On his part, the deputy governor nominee said he would work closely with Kaguchia to ensure that the residents of Mukurwe-ini benefited with devolved governance.
In his quest for capturing the Mukurwe-ini parliamentary seat,ย Kaguchia will battle it with among others,ย the incumbent Anthony Kiai who is seeking a second term under the sponsorship of The Service Party (TPS) and Jubilee party aspirant Kariuki Wa Muchemi.
