This year’s International Tea Day ceremony took place in Murang’a County.
Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock Development Mutahi Kagwe presided over the event with a promise to sector farmers that the government is committed to revitalizing the sector by lowering production costs through the national fertilizer subsidy, proposing tax reforms to promote value addition, supporting direct tea sales to increase farmer earnings, and establishing shared packaging facilities to help smallholder producers access global markets.
This year’s event was matled under the theme “Empowering Farmers, Sustaining Livelihoods.”
The CS, alongside other speakers like Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) Holdings chairman Chege Kirundi, Tea Board of Kenya Chief Executive Officer Willy Mutai and Kigumo MP Joseph Kamau Munyoro encouraged factories to embrace innovation, branding, and digital marketing to position Kenyan tea more competitively on the world stage.
They also applauded the dedication of tea farmers and all industry players for their role in sustaining livelihoods and strengthening Kenya’s global reputation for quality tea.
