Students’ minds are like flowers. If teachers frown even a little, they wilt like flowers that have withered. Creating a joyful environment is primarily the responsibility of every teacher to spark interest in the subjects we teach. There is no doubt that every action done with enthusiasm will lead to success.
How can we instill interest in the subjects we teach to students? It is my habit to enter the classroom with a smile on my face, greeting with ‘Hi children, hello children.’ Without thinking about why I am coming, the children ask why I didn’t come, and the words to describe their feelings are not found in any dictionary.
Utilizing new strategies in teaching. If students come with enthusiasm to show a drawing, instead of saying ‘Go get your book’ like an average teacher, I make sure to show their drawing to everyone and ask how they see what is depicted in it, bringing joy to both the one who drew it and those who share their thoughts. By explaining the objects that can naturally be found in the classroom, their speaking skills are developed. Singing various songs also undoubtedly helps them speak the language fluently.
It is excellent to improve and adapt ourselves to the current environment. Instead of just talking to the blackboard, make it a habit to converse with the students. Later, not only the students but also the sky will be yours. Why? For what? How? Why? The questions that arise from students challenge our skills. Unique talents lie hidden in the students, and it is in our hands to either bring them out or leave them buried.
There is much more in this world beyond just studying and getting good grades. Is it fair to treat the students entrusted to us as mere frogs in a well? Isn’t it wrong to impose our views on children who think what the teacher says is gospel? All students are excellent. There is no one who is not capable of learning slowly. It is true that we need to adapt our teaching strategies to suit them. If it is a language subject, teaching and learning should be based on skills.
The students entrusted to us come from various backgrounds. Not everyone’s mental state is the same. It is very important to recognize them and understand that we definitely have a role in their development. If we can bring them close to us, it feels like we have achieved half of our success. When they share many things that they cannot share at home with us, it becomes a bridge to instill confidence in them.
The classroom should be given freedom. That freedom should be monitored without crossing limits. If we make them realize that our teacher speaks well only for our well-being, we will become their respected figures. When the subject matter is introduced to students without them realizing it, there is no doubt that the classroom will transform into a joyful one.
When the subject we teach is liked by them, our teaching-learning process becomes easier. When done with enthusiasm, desires are fulfilled. If we are happy, the students will be too, and if the students are happy, we will be, and the classroom will not only be joyful but also fulfilling.
