Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka Friday proposed Public Service Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa for the position of Deputy Party Leader, a move that could significantly reshape the party’s leadership structure and extend its political footprint along the Coast region ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during a public function in Kwale County, Kalonzo announced that he would front Jumwa for the influential position, while making clear that the party leadership would formally deliberate on the proposal before any official announcement is made. The declaration, delivered before a gathering of party supporters and officials, immediately placed Jumwa at the centre of Wiper’s unfolding political strategy.

“This woman is a jewel to the whole world, and when she stands with Wiper Patriotic Front, Kalonzo commands respect. I want to propose that she will be the Deputy Party Leader of Wiper Patriotic Front,” Kalonzo said, drawing applause from those in attendance.

The remarks were significant not only for what they signalled about Jumwa’s rising stock within the opposition landscape, but also for what they revealed about Wiper’s broader ambitions as it seeks to reposition itself as a nationally competitive political force.

A seasoned politician with Coast roots

Jumwa is among the most experienced politicians operating in Kenya’s current political environment.
