A petition challenging the election of Kieni constituency Member of Parliament Njoroge Wainaina has been withdrawn.

The case was put off yesterday, a day when the hearing was set to begin at a Nyeri court.

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party lawmaker said he was happy by the move as he would now concentrate his energies on serving his constituents in particular and Kenyans in general.

“Our Former MP Hon. Kanini Kega agreed that we fairly won and the great people of Kieni made a well informed decision,” Wainaina posted after the matter was put to rest.

He added, “Today, Hon. Kanini Kega was a gentleman enough, He has withdrawn the case he had filed in the Nyeri High Court challenging our Win. We now do not have anything hindering us to our journey of delivering to our People. Maendeleo Kwa Wingi sasa….”.

A total of 106 people were expected to take the witness stand starting yesterday before Justice Dora Chepkwony.

The petitioners were former Kieni NG-CDF chairman James Maina Munene and the former MP’s Personal Assistant Geoffrey Wahome who had lined up 62 witnesses who were expected to show and proof before the court that the electioneering exercise was not free and fair.

On the other hand, the current who is popularly known as Chieni had mobilized 44 witnesses who were expected to dismantle the evidence by petitioners and their witnesses and convince the court that the current MP was validly elected.

Last month, the presiding Judge fixed hearing dates from yesterday up to December 22.

The withdrawal of the petition comes just a few weeks after the former area MP bagged the East African Legislative Assembly seat, courtesy of UDA parliamentary support.

After winning the regional seat, it was widely expected that he would not pursue the petition.
