Worth Noting:
- Elvis Amunabi Andai, a student who was learning at Geodav Institute of Technology for adult education said that during rehearsal last week he learnt that his sitting place in the examination center was not put up and reported the matter with the Institute and Kiambu sub county education office.
- “I learnt that my name was not on the nominal list during rehearsal day and alerted the Kiambu Sub county education office who told me that they will sought out the matter by the time of exam day,” Amunabi said.
- He said that on Monday during the examination to kick start, he was shocked to fund that he did not receive his examination papers since the examination papers bore each student’s name.
A section of students who were denied a chance to sit for their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) this year are in agony after they found out that Kenya National examination council (KNEC) did not register them to sit for the exams.
The new measures put by KNEC to curb exam cheating saw other students being registered to sit for exams of subjects that they did not choose.
Students who had enrolled in the Adult Education learning in Kiambu County were shocked to find out that they had not been put in the nominal list of students who were sitting for exams despite paying to sit for exams in March this year.

He said that on Monday during the examination to kick start, he was shocked to fund that he did not receive his examination papers since the examination papers bore each student’s name.
He said that he went to the education office, where they failed to explain why he did not receive his exam papers and was informed that he was not registered as his name was not in the nominal list.
He said that he is frustrated as he had put effort and sacrifice for a full year using his hard earned money from working in a web designer shop as an employee with the hope of working in UAE next year where he has gotten an opportunity.
“I enrolled for adult education after I dropped out of school due to lack of school fees. After hard work, dedication and sacrifice of my time so that I can get a certificate of KCSE which is a requirement for opportunity I have gotten abroad now the chance is gone since I will not sit for exams,’ he said.
Francis Mwangi is equally wondering how his grades will be since he was shocked that he could not sit for chemistry exam on Monday after finding out that KNEC registered him for physics paper.
“My shock is that I have been learning Chemistry and was prepared to sit for the paper but I found out that I was registered rather for Physics and when I inquired I was told that I can only sit for the Physics paper,’ Mwangi said.
He said that he is now forced to revise for physics despite him not having any knowledge of physics.
‘My teacher has agreed to take me through physics in the next two weeks when the physics paper is due. I will try to do my best and answer the questions to the best of my knowledge. Hopefully the grade I will get will not affect my main grade,’ he said.
Jane Wambui, another student who will not sit for exams said that her dream to enroll for nursing classes has been thwarted after finding out that her name was not in the list of students who will be sitting for examinations.
“I am hurt by this outcome despite complaining and ensuring that I will sit for exams and counter checking only to find out that I am not in the nominal list,” she said.
She said that no explanation has been given to her even after paying for examinations to KNEC that her name was not put in the examination papers.
GEODAV management who refused to be named said that they had made sure that all their students were well registered and everything was in order.
“We are only mandated by the ministry of education to offer learning to students and registration is done by the students who directly paid to KNEC and we presented the names of our students to the sub county ministry of education,” they said.
They said that they were called in by the Kiambu County Ministry of Education Director to verify if the students did pay for examinations and it was found out that they had paid and were not registered by KNEC.
An effort to reach out to the County Director of Education was fruitless.
