The Chair to the National Assembly departmental committee of energy led by its chair Vincent Musau MP Mwala Constituency ,he received petition on government and relevant Petroleum stakeholders on streamlining the at least Four factors affecting fuel industry.
Speaking to the members and petitioners at the committee session the chair asked whether the recommendations would be of impact to the Kenyan economy and encouraged stakeholders in joining efforts to push for changes in the oil sectors
Market Structure, Subsidy on Fuel which risks sufficient flow of fuel in the market, Profit and Loss Margins and having no representative at the Board Of Energy Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).
The Chairperson Of United energy and Petroleum Association Irene Kimathi has asked the Committee to task the government to reduce levies, taxes in pricing structures of fuel during the period of subsidy to avoid disruption of the normal market flow of the commodity.
“We would like to seek the committee’s attention to several fundamental issues that must be addressed to ensure that we have an efficient supply system and also keep our dealers in business who are largely compromised of the indigenous population” Stated Irene Kimathi.
According to the petition currently the flow of fuel is inefficient due to the issue of subsidy and the soaring international prices Which has led the Oil Marketing Companies in hoarding their products in a bid to avoid the eminent losses.
