Kiama Kia Ma Supreme Elders (Athuri a Matathi, na Atonyi) yesterday conducted a cultural prayer ceremony in Mt Kenya’s Old Moses area.

The special prayers were meant to plead with the Almighty, Mwene Nyaga to have mercy on His people and safe our country from the devastating drought. The prayers were led by Athamaki Boro wa Ng’era from Nyandarua, Thiong’o wa Gitaũ from Kiambu, Dr Gichuru wa Gathii from Muranga and Kang’ethe wa Mbarũ from Nakuru under the direction of Maturanguru Njathi wa Mbatia from Kiambu. Muthamaki Kariuki wa Kabui conducted prayers from Nyeri at the base of the Mountain.

The prayers were coordinated by Cultural priest Warorua wa Kimani assisted by Wachira wa Kariuki.

The elders represented the ten clans of the Agĩkũyũ (mihiriga kenda mũihũru) and the two ruling regiments Maina na Mwangi.

The prayers ceremony were commissioned by Ndungu wa Gaithuma, National Chairman of Kiama Kia Ma in Ndakaini, Gatanga in Muranga on 21st Feb and continued in various places in each county, culminating in yesterday’s final rites

The elders also prayed to God to have mercy on young people and deliver them from social ills including LGBTQ, drug and alcohol abuse and poor mental health.

Speaking after the ceremony, National Deputy Chairman of Kiama Kia Ma Njoroge wa Mugo thanked all who facilitated the ceremony including the Secretary General Eng Muiru wa Kamunguna, Organising Secretary Kabugi wa Karanja and Patron Nyeri County, Njaramba Wa Wanjii.

The ceremonial one colored lamb without a blemish was taken from the Meru to Nyeri and Kirinyaga, before being returned the same route back to Sirimon Gate and up the Mountain for sacrifice.

This generally reffered to the area where main rivers that supply down country originate. Warorua wa Kimani said God is all merciful after the rain stated pouring in torrents immediately after the prayer ceremony.

The rain poured heavily in Nanyuki, Narumoru from 3pm onwards, a true indication that God is indeed merciful.

Kiama Kia Ma elder from all counties will converge in Nyeri tomorrow at Mugwathi Shrine near Nyeri town to thank the Almighty and install Nyaramba wa Wanjii as the cultural Patron, Nyeri County.
