Kenya Prisons Service Director In charge of Rehabilitation Ms Olivia Obel has hailed GK Men Prison, King’ong’o for good behaviours exemplified among inmates.

The Director said that the facility has upheld the true meaning of a correctional institution as prisons are all envisaged to do, having reported zero serious indiscipline incidences by inmates.

She attributed this to regular and comprehensive training on mind-set change and spiritual growth through training, noting that such interventions are key in boosting efforts by government to rehabilitate and correct the behaviours of inmates.

The Director spoke at the Prison yesterday during the second graduation ceremony of Mind-set Education and Theology course sponsored by a South-Korean based International Youth Fellowship and Mahanaim International Bible College that saw successful training of 378 inmates in 45 facilities around the country on this certificate course for one year with 67 of them coming from King’ong’o GK prison.

The Fellowship head Reverend Kim Jing Su said that such trainings are crucial in shaping morals of prisoners, saying the he too is a product of mind-set course training after being in jail for 16 years back in his South Korea, his mother country.

Reverend Kim said that change in behaviours by undergoing jail terms has positive results that are realised through growth and development of a nation.

Central Region Prisons Boss Patrick Arandu urged people walking free to desist from engaging in criminal activities.

Arandu said that while the government has the responsibility of deterring crime and punishing wrongdoers, it is always a costly affair that takes up sizeable amount of tax payers’ money.

“I challenge all people out there cherish their freedom and guard it by not engaging in crime. This way, we will help government commit taxpayers that would have kept you in jail to other meaningful development projects, “he said.
