Worth Noting:
- He noted that there is no land or cattle for inheritance, but through education, one is equipped with knowledge and the wherewithal to access wealth and social status, from scratch.
- “It therefore pains to see that a number of candidates who perform well in Certificate examination fail to join the next level of education due to lack of school fees,” he said.
- That is why, to help bridge the gap and complement what other benefactors and government institutions are doing to support needy students, we have come up with the Elimu na Simba programme to help send more children from Kisii county to school.

Kisii governor Simba Arati has launched the Elimu na Simba scholarship programme which is aimed at sponsoring Vulnerable students from poor background to access secondary education.
Speaking at Gusii stadium Arati clarified that this scheme is NOT being sponsored by Government funds, but through well-wishers, an initiative of the Office of the First Lady.
“As such, my administration-that’s Myself, the Deputy Governor, County Executive Committee members, Country Secretary ,County Attorney ,Chief Officers and Chief of staff have all joined in to support at least a child to pursue secondary education,” he said.
He encouraged members of the public to chip in to help needy students afford fees for their education.
According to him Education is a worthy equalizer which enables even the ‘poor of the poor’ to scale the social economic and sometimes political and leadership ladder.
He cited that with the changes in societal affairs due to modern civilization, coupled with diminishing traditional wealth base for largesse, it is only education which we can bequeath the children, for posterity.

He said that his government aim to ensure that in Kisii County, there will be no kids out of school for lack of school fees.
“For now, we have Elimu na Simba and WE have also re- introduced the County Bursary which will soon be launched,” he said.
He cited that currently, the county has done a supplementary budget which once approved, will enable us to disburse 135 million shillings already allocated for bursary. Each electoral ward is set to receive 3 million shillings and the fund will be transparently executed through the MCAs.
“And due to the delays in having the County Bursary fund on course and the need to have more children on education scholarship, we conceptualized the Elimu Na Simba scheme where students (who are classified needy) who scored above 350 marks in KCPE are set to benefit,”he said.
Those who will get the scholarship will be fully sponsored from Form One to Form 4.
He appealed to anyone who knows any student who scored the said marks but still unable to join form one to immediately report the case.
Arati said that the county jointly working with the National Government Administration officials right from the village level to help in the identification and validation of the needy cases, for action.
He challenged the benefiting students to work diligently and post impressive academic performance as this is the only way that we can realize value for the sponsorship.
