Laikipia County government is set to relocate its headquarters from Nanyuki town to Rumuruti early next year.
Governor Joshua Irungu says the new offices are complete and ready for occupation.
Thus, come January 2023, all the county government offices, currently based in Nanyuki town will be relocated to Rumuruti township.
The Governor made the revelations last Thursday as the country marked this year’s Mashujaa day which the county observed at Rumuruti stadium.
Though Rumuruti is the gazetted County Headquarter, County officials have been operating from Nanyuki since the advent of devolution in 2013.
There has been some resistance over the plan to move the county headquarters from the rich tourism town of Nanyuki.
Although Rumuruti is said to be centrally located, Nanyuki has all along been considered more ideal due to its tourism attractions, its proximity to the highest mountain in the country, its improved infrastructure among other reasons.
Further, the town that lies next to the Equator isvhome to British Army Training Unit and also hosts various military installations.
