Preparations for the upcoming Uzalendo Half Marathon gained fresh momentum after organizers held a media briefing in Nairobi to rally support for the much-anticipated race set for next Saturday in Eldama Ravine, Baringo County, with an aim to raise 25m Kshs to support for needy students.
The launch, attended by key partners, sponsors and athletics enthusiasts, drew attention to the central purpose of the marathon: raising funds for the scholarship and endowment fund for Uzalendo School, an institution committed to empowering bright but needy learners.
Speaking during the event, Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Culture and Social Services, Hannah Wendot, urged Kenyans and corporate entities alike to stand behind the noble initiative, underscoring the power of sports in uniting communities and transforming lives through education.
“Education remains one of the most reliable ladders for any child to climb out of poverty. By supporting this marathon, you are investing directly in the dreams of the next generation. Thanks to the organizers for choosing a unique way to combine sports and education while putting Eldama Ravine on the map as an emerging athletics hub,” she stated.
Race Director and former Eldama Ravine member of parliament Mosses lessonet noted that this year’s edition has attracted both seasoned runners and amateurs eager to compete and contribute to the cause.
“I call on call on more well wishers to register and make the inaugural event a success story that can grow into an annual fixture,” he noted.
Local leaders from Baringo County who attended the launch promised to ensure visitors enjoy a safe and memorable experience. They highlighted Eldama Ravine’s cool weather and scenic terrain as ideal for long-distance running, giving athletes a chance to test their endurance in favorable conditions.
Organizers expect hundreds of runners to line up for the 21-kilometer race, with side events planned for families and spectators to make the day more inclusive. Proceeds from registration fees, sponsorships and donations will go directly to cover tuition and related expenses for deserving students at Uzalendo School.
As the countdown begins in earnest, the message from today’s event was that every step taken on 19th July will help pave a brighter path for countless young minds across the region.
