ANNOTATION
In this article, it will be explained about the counting words taught in the mother tongue textbook, their types and ways of use and places based on the story “Thief” by Abdulla Qahhor. Each account used in the story is subjected to word analysis and compared in terms of its activity in other literatures and its activity in styles.
Key words: number, count, word, unit, head, gram, liter, bag, person, whole, garden, piece.
Counting words are used depending on how people and things are counted. A count is used between a number and a word representing something that can be counted, and words that indicate the measure of this thing are counted words. [N. Mahmudov, A. Nurmonov, A. Sobirov, D. Nabiyeva. Textbook for the 6th grade of general secondary schools. “Tasvir” publishing house. Tashkent – 2017. Page 172]
Counting words in many cases are a unit of measurement that indicates the calculation of the subject, sometimes work – the movement, through which the amount of work and movement of the subject is determined. [M. Hamroyev, D. Muhamedova, D. Shodmonkulova, X Ghulomova, Sh. Yoldosheva. Mother tongue. Tashkent “Economy-finance” 2007, page 113]
As an example of such words, we can show the following combinations: ten handfuls of water, four sacks of wheat, one hem of cotton, two buckets of water, ten liters of gasoline, two kilograms of sugar, seven meters of wheat.
Counting words are also divided into several types:
- Counting words used to count things individually: tup, nafar, bash, dona;
- Counting words used to calculate the part of the whole: part, piece, page, piece, foot, drop, bite, holap, nimta, shingil;
- Counting words showing a bunch: gala, ball, group, bundle, garden, bunch, handful;
- counting words showing pairs: para, juft;
- counting words that measure weight: gram, kilogram, centner, ton, example, pood, batman, package;
- Counting words denoting the measure of length: karach, kulak, meter, millimeter, gas;
- counting words denoting the measure of age: yashar, daily, monthly, youth;
- counting words denoting the measure of time: second, year, week, hour, month, day;
- Counting words denoting the measure of value: soum, tanga, miri.
In the story “Thief” by Abdulla Qahhor, the following sentences are included: Let the farmer’s house burn, let his ox not perish. A sack of straw, ten to fifteen poles, a cartload of reeds – a house and an ox, how many times will it be necessary to drop the pot into the water.
It is known that Mingboshi gave himself seven hundred bunches of alfalfa and one cow.
“Yes, is the cow gone?”
– No… it wasn’t a cow, it was an ox.
– An ox?… It is an ox! Hmmm… Ola ox? Repent!..- All I had was this one ox…
Amin laughed with his chin up to the second syllable.
A week has passed. During this week, the old woman brought half a bag of rice, three bowls of oats, and two kalavas of yarn to Azayim Khan, who “opens locks with the power of prayer”, but it didn’t work.
Three chickens, although one of them was a turkey, came out of grandfather Cain himself. Neighbors and brothers collected a hundred eggs. But it was not possible to go beyond the translator. Tilmoch took the bag and immediately promised to explain it to the bailiff.
All the joints of the old man went loose, and then he fell asleep, but could he say anything to the grave! “Do not play with a character – he will beat you with every chapter.” After the “well-explained” bailiff took one cow, one farangi chicken, and three sums of money, fortunately for grandfather Kabul, instead of saying “I will report to the governor without delay,” he said, “Go to me.” Amin said, “Let him go to the fiftieth.”
“Hey, you’re a young boy!” Why are you crying? A very big man… If there is only one ox, it’s one thing, may God bow down to death! I will tell my father-in-law to give you one ox. Is one ox the food of a man? [Ma’ruf Tashpolatov, Luqman Borikhan. Abdulla Qahhor, Mirkarim Asim, Said Ahmed. -Tashkent: “Publishing Office of Uzbekistan”, 2022-592b. pp. 150-153]
The use of a countable number with the word count. A count can also be used together with a word that expresses a unit of measurement. The following combinations in the work are a clear proof of this:
A bag of straw – the word bag is a counting word that shows a bunch;
A cart of reeds – the word cart is also a counting word that shows a bunch;
Seven hundred gardens in of alfalfa – the word garden is a counting word showing a bunch:
The second syllable of Chinchalogi – the word syllable is a counting word representing a part of the whole;
A week has passed – the word “week” in the sentence is a counting word meaning a measure of time;
Half a sack of wheat, three sacks of corn, two sacks of yarn – the words sack, sack, sack and sack are a counting word;
All the old man’s joints are loose – the whole word is a word of calculation;
After receiving three soums – the word soum is a counting word that represents a measure of value.
The words such as bag, yelpish tavav, cart, joint in the work are originally words related to nouns and used to be counting words that also mean measurement.
Countable numbers are used without counting words and with counting words: two pens, five students, ten students – without counting words: six trees, three liters of milk, ten months tdi, called twice – he came with the words of account [M. Hamroyev, D. Muhamedov, D. Shodmonkulova, Kh. Gulomova, Sh. Yoldosheva. Mother tongue. Tashkent “Economy-finance” 2007, page 113]. A similar situation is observed in the story “Thief” by Abdulla Qahhor. Counting words that should be used in some places in the work are omitted:
– All I had was this one ox…
Three chickens, although one of them was a turkey, came out of grandfather Cain himself.
In the first sentence, the counting word between one ox is omitted: one ox;
In the combination of three chickens in the second sentence, the word count is omitted – three chickens.
In almost all the stories presented in the 6th grade literature textbook, counting words taught in the 6th grade mother tongue textbook were involved. In particular, such a situation is observed in O’tkir Hashimov’s story “The Last Victim of War”:
Aunt Umi clutched the hem of her cheetah dress with one hand, and inside the hem were two handfuls of mixed strawberries. [S. Ahmedov, R. Kochkarov, Sh. Rizayev. Literature. Textbook-complex for 6th grade students of general secondary schools. Part I. Tashkent “Spirituality” 2017. Page 156]. And such connections create a great ground for the student to fully master the subject.The word account forms an inseparable syntactic unit together with the number it is connected to, and occupies one syntactic position in the sentence. The syntactic function of the word “money” in the composition “After receiving three sums of money” in the work, the word “sum” also performs the same function.
The word account has been actively used in the Uzbek language since ancient times. Today, some of them are completely out of use or are used very little.
[Hectare], [degree], [kilowatt-hour], [cubic meter], [meter] (centimeter, millimeter), [minute], [par], [pacha], [sotix], [centner], [working day ], the word count entered the Uzbek language in the 20th century.
The password system is an open system. [R. Sayfullayeva, B. Mengliyev, G. Bakiyeva, M. Qurbonova, Z. Yunusova, M. Abuzalova. Modern Uzbek literary language. Tashkent-2009. pp. 249-250]
