Makueni County Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. has announced that seven hospitals in the region will soon be equipped with X-ray machines to improve healthcare services.
During his speech at the Mashujaa Day celebrations in Matiliku town, the governor revealed that six X-ray machines have already been purchased for Kibwezi, Kisau, Mbooni, Kilungu, Tawa, and Sultan Hamud Sub County hospitals. The first digital X-ray for Matiliku Subcounty Hospital will be delivered in the next two weeks.
In addition to the X-ray machines, the governor announced the purchase of two ambulances for Kambu and Kilungu hospitals to enhance the referral system and ensure timely medical attention for patients across the county.
“These ambulances will improve our referral system and have already led to a significant increase in patient workload, up to 300% in Kilungu and Matiliku hospitals,” he said.
Governor Mutula also shared that Mutyambua, Emali, Kyambeke, and Nthongoni hospitals have been upgraded to Level 4, resulting in increased staffing and modern equipment, allowing them to handle more complex cases.
To further support healthcare, he has directed the health department to implement a locum programme, ensuring that facilities with only one healthcare worker remain operational during leaves or official duties.
On the matter of drug availability, the governor assured that all health facilities will be stocked in the second quarter and that discussions are underway to address any shortages.
