As a way of bailing out Thagicu residents in Kitui County from ravaging drought hitting the region, Tharaka Ward MCA and a veteran journalist Muthengi Ndagara has partnered with SAPAD organisation to distribute relief food and planting seeds to the affected residents ahead of October rains.

The food and seeds were distributed from all the centres serving as Sub Locations headquarters of Thagicu Sub County among them Mukuyu, Nthangani, Gatoroni, Ciaitungu, Ciampiu and Kamayagi.

Speaking at Kamayagi market, Ndagara said he will ensure no resident dies of hunger in his reign and that he is dedicated to improve the general welfare of the marginalised Thagicu residents.

He said the food donation was a lobby from SAPAD through his own efforts and promised to push for a supplementary budget by Kitui County government to create funds in a bid to cushion electorates from the current economic hardships.

“After our first sitting on 11th,I will be on the forefront to Push Governor Malombe so that we have a supplementary budget to buy our people food and planting seeds as they have exhausted every resource they had,’’ Ndagara said.

The first time MCA said for now some projects like roads construction can wait and all efforts channelled towards ensuring residents gets food.

Ndagara further said the area MP Hon. Malili and Senator Kiio should also embark on lobbying from the national government so that Kitui County and especially schools will also benefit like other Counties listed to get relief food owing to biting hunger that has resulted from low amount of rainfall in previous seasons.

Speaking during the food distribution, SAPAD CEO Chabari Kiura noted that the numbers were thrice higher their expectations and promised to return when they secure another donation.

Worth noting, the Kenya Meteorological Department KMD forecast report shows that in the oncoming season, most parts of the country and especial the lower Eastern will have a generally poorly distributed rainfall in both time and space.

Further, the report says that the Eastern part of Kenya will experience warmer-than-average temperatures.
