Nyeri County senatorial seat Independent candidate Mercy Waithanji

Mercy Waithanji has intensified her campaign in her bid to capture the Nyeri County senatorial seat.
Ms Waithanji, a former teacher and environmental activist has been criss-crossing the county soliciting support from the nearly half a million voters in the area.
She is banking on her experience in public matters as an educationist and her environmental activities background to woo the voters.
Yesterday, Ms Waithanji who is contesting as an Independent candidate took her campaign to the vast Kieni constituency where she sought the support from AIPCA and KAG faithful from Gatuamba and Naromoru areas.
She outlined her manifesto where she intends to play the oversight role by among other things, ensuring that funds allocate or generated by the county government is prudently spent.
Further, she intends to continue empowering youth, women and people living with disabilities as she has been doing privately.
Being an environmental activist, she intends to ensure water towers and reservoirs are well protected for the benefit of current and future generations.
Others in the race are former area Women Representative Priscila Nyokabi who is bring sponsored by the Jubilee party, Wahome Wamatinga of UDA party, Kabando wa Kabando who is flying the Narc Kenya party and businessman Wambugu Nyamu of Democratic Party of Kenya (DP).
