MPs and Senators Attendance In Both Houses Is Not Real

Kenya of Parliament

By Abraham Ong’uti

This is one of the concerns Kenyans will continue to cry in persistence for a long time. If just sitting in parliament to amend and ensure laws are implemented is a big problem what about implementing projects. In many of the sittings both the national assembly and the Senate the chamber is seen unoccupied with empty seats yet the present leaders are discussing important matters. Then it means there significant role of enacting and doing oversight is not even credible. Then where is the worry during voting or the leaders themselves.

It is even more devastating that while Kenyans are wailing for the already deteriorated economy which needs steadfast intervention and passing effective laws for it to return to normality. Political bitterness is the only one that is being expressed. For instance, when the opposition leaders are claiming what the government is supposed to do in their rallies is it the solution?. However, they are required to table motions in both houses then point out their castigations towards the government of the day. But also the unfortunate thing it comes when there are debates that are politically instigated then you will see enormous numbers of them like impeachments and funds. When CDF was being delayed we had them say they avoid the induction meeting hence we need the same spirit in parliament.

In chapter eight in part two the composition of parliament (b) when a member misses the 8 consecutive sittings he or she will be expelled. Consequently as they consider this section let consider attending every sitting if there is no any constraint not to attend. I urge MPs and senators that they have a calling to serve the people for the sovereign powers they have been granted by Kenyans in every opportunity.
