The Parliamentary Caucus working against Drugs, Substance and Alcohol Abuse yesterday convened a meeting to chat the way forward.
Led by Robert Gichumu Githinji of Gichugu constituency, the forum resolved that a lasting solution over the menace must be found.
The members of the caucus whose objectives are geared towards raising awareness on the effects of drug and alcohol abuse across the country, underscored the need to generate plan that will effectively assist in the fight against the vice.
The legislators also noted there was need to urgently address the issue which is directly linked to the rising cases of sexual assault, depression, poverty and suicide among other ills bedeviling the society.
The caucus plans to collaborate with the Executive and other relevant agencies in order to effectively combat the challenge.
As a means to creating a road map for this cause, the members agreed to kickstart the process of reviewing the existing regulations in order to introduce legislative interventions towards strengthening the regulatory framework and to heighten awareness campaigns against the vice.
Their new strategy will also see them engage relevant agencies in order to scale up the fight against the menace.
