National Assembly Outreach Enlightens Pupils At Lake Kenyatta Primary School In Mpeketoni Lamu County

A delegation from the National Assembly Directorate of the Speaker’s Office, led by Mr. Eric Ogollo, Senior Public Communications Officer, accompanied by Mr. Yaqub Ahmed, Media Relations Officer, and Ms. Mary Kamande, Public Communications Officer, conducted an outreach program at Lake Kenyatta Primary School in Mpeketoni, Lamu County.
Lake Kenyatta Primary School, with over 1600 pupils, had the opportunity to engage with officers from the National Assembly on the outreach program aimed at educating them about parliamentary business.
Lake Kenyatta is a public school situated in Mpeketoni, Lamu County, more than 800 kilometres from Nairobi. The focus of the program is to demystify parliamentary democracy.
The team, representing the Clerk of the National Assembly led by Mr. Eric Ogollo thanked the Clerk of the National for facilitating the programme.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank the Clerk of the National Assembly, Mr. Samuel Njoroge, for giving us this golden opportunity and to convey his greetings to you,” said Mr. Ogollo.
The format of the program included a verbal presentation and group engagement with pupils and teachers. They were taken through the roles of the National Assembly and its leadership offices. The pupils and teachers were allowed to ask questions.
The objective of the outreach program is to promote awareness and understanding of the National Assembly and the democratic process to students across the country through a non-partisan approach. The program provides a means of bringing the National Assembly to those who are unable to visit due to distance and logistical challenges.

Madam Rahma, a senior teacher, thanked the Clerk of the National Assembly, Mr. Samuel Njoroge, for facilitating this opportunity. “Information is power. Maybe some things would not have happened if people had information. We were wondering what would happen next after the Finance Bill was rejected, and there were a lot of theories going around, with some saying the bill would automatically become law after 14 days. All this was because of a lack of information,” she said.
The teachers appreciated the program, saying it would easily gain the confidence of people because it is conducted by professionals and is apolitical.
In conclusion, Mr. Agutu, the Headmaster of Lake Kenyatta Primary School, thanked the National Assembly for the opportunity accorded to them. “On behalf of our teachers and students, I want to sincerely thank the Clerk of the National Assembly, Mr. Samuel Njoroge, for making our dream come true. All pupils and our teachers were able to understand and engage in learning about how the National Assembly works and how our country is run. Both the joint and group interactions were very impactful and enjoyable, and they learned a lot,” said Mr. Agutu.
