PCEA Banana Parish on Saturday partnered with the local security officials to conserve the environment to mark the end of the JPRC week. The event was organised through the collaboration of the Banana PCEA Parish JPRC committee, the local Karuri Police Station together with other relevant agencies in the area. The event, which included a tree planting and clean-up exercise of Banana township kicked off at the Karuri Police Station. The Banana Parish team comprised of the Parish Minister who is also the Kiambu Presbytery moderator Rev. Mary Muriuki, the Parish Session Clerk, Sarah Wanjiru together with the JPRC committee Patron, Elder Jane Kamuto. Speakers at the event expressed the need to foster closer ties between the police and the church in community work for the benefit of local people .
Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania are set to deliberate on the final selection and readiness of hosting venues for the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as the 1st, 2nd and third-place playoff of the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN), scheduled for August 2025.
The three countries’ Sports Ministers are expected to conclude logistical discussions by tomorrow, as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) intensifies preparations to ensure the East African trio is ready to host the prestigious tournament.
During a high-level virtual interministerial meeting chaired by CAF Secretary General Veron Mosengo-Omba, Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, the Creative Economy and Sports, Salim Mvurya, reaffirmed the country’s preparedness to host both ceremonies and match fixtures.
The Sh54 billion worth of electricity connectivity projects that are going across several parts of the country are set to boost national connectivity from 77 per cent to 83 percent before the end of the year, a boost to development and job creation. Energy Principal Secretary Alex Wachira said the Sh42 billion funding for last mile connectivity and the Sh12 billion acceleration programme that targets 14 under connected counties is set to connect electricity to between 480,000 to 600,000 households. Speaking while lighting some of the households in Thika East Sub county, the PS said works for the two programmes is ongoing with several households being lit. The PS disclosed that Mt Kenya region got Sh10.3 billion worth of electricity connections with Kiambu County alone getting Sh419 million worth of funding under this initiative to connect 2,700 households. Thika MP Alice Ng’ang’a hailed the development as transformative, revealing that over 1,750 families in her constituency would directly benefit. Dr. Rose Mukalama, CEO of Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy, urged residents to be vigilant and guard against vandalism, describing the culprits as economic saboteurs. She emphasized that the electricity connections are free of charge, warning that no one should demand payment since the government has fully covered the costs. Residents welcomed the electricity connections, saying it would improve their lives and open new doors for employment and enterprise.
The Samburu county government has flagged off food to 536 Early Childhood Development (ECD) schools, targeting 38,000 pupils for the term two school feeding programme.
Speaking after flagging off 4000 bags of rice, 700 bags of beans, and 700 jerry cans of cooking oil, Samburu County Education CEC Mark Egelan said that the school feeding programme in Samburu has led to an increase in ECD enrollment and retention. The CEC noted that there would be strict supervision of the food in schools and at the same time cautioned teachers against using the food for personal gains.
Egelan said that the county government has partnered with Kenya Drylands Education Fund (KDEF) which would be responsible for distribution and monitoring.
