Private universities have called for a fair funding model for all higher learning institutions to cushion parents during economic times. Zetech University Vice Chancellor Prof. Njenga Munene emphasised the need for a collaborative approach to education, as the country cannot afford a divisive approach. The university has received support from various bodies, including the Ministry of Education, the University Funding Board, the Higher Education Loans Board, the University and Colleges Central Placement Board, and the Commission for University Education. The new funding model will exclude students from private universities from scholarships, limiting funding to a certain limit. Microsoft Africa Development Centre CEO Catherine Muraga emphasised the need for universities to develop technology courses to remain relevant and marketable, while also calling on corporate leaders to mentor and provide employment opportunities for fresh graduates. Muraga emphasised the importance of young minds in the technological revolution, highlighting the need for adapting to new ways of working and fostering a more inclusive education system.

The Interior and National Administration Principal Secretary, Dr. Raymond Omollo, has announced plans to implement a report by the task force on police reforms, which includes recommendations to improve working conditions and the welfare of security officers. The recommendations include logistics, mobility, and equipment for the National Police Service, the Prisons Service, and the National Youth Service (NYS) to enhance service delivery. He spoke in Sosiot Center, Belgut when he commissioned a Police Station.
Thika women and youth groups in Kenya have been able to access posho mills as a form of empowerment to help them cope with high living costs and the rising prices of maize flour. The initiative by Ahadi Kenya and the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency aims to make cheap maize flour more accessible, particularly for vulnerable groups in Thika. The mills, equipped with electricity and diesel engines, can process maize and other grains like sorghum and millet. Prime Cabinet secretary Musalia Mudavadi’s spouse, Tessie Mudavadi, emphasised the need for cluster groups to benefit from government funds like the Women Enterprises Fund and Youth Fund to start income-generating activities. Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a said the programme would also create a sustainable market for maize and other grains. The initiative is expected to help combat drugs and substance abuse in the Mt. Kenya region and encourage Kenyans to support the government through meaningful empowerment programs. The seven self-help groups received 50 and 90kg bags of maize as startup to start their businesses.

Youth Affairs and Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has threatened to shut down athletes’ training camps found to be flouting anti-doping regulations. Namwamba claims that innocent athletes’ careers are being ruined by certain training camps, coaches, and agents who administer enhancement drugs without their knowledge. The Kenyan government, through the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya, National Government Administration officers, police, judiciary, and other key players, will reign in training camps and their coaches who are suspiciously doping innocent athletes. The government has set aside Sh3.7 billion to deal with doping cases, which have threatened athletes’ careers. Namwamba remarked that the recent increase in doping cases among Kenyan athletes had attracted international attention when World Athletics President Lord Sebastion Coe visited Kenya early this year. He promised to disrupt doping syndicates within the country through initiatives like Talanta Hela and ensure the construction of ‘Elite Stadium’ in Nandi County. Nandi Governor Stephen Sang was disappointed that doping cases had been identified among athletes from his county and recommended investigations of training camps and coaches to ban those found culpable from carrying out their activities.

John Kariuki alias Choromai, the Chief Accounting Officer at Deputy President’s office was at the weekend the Chief Guest during the Nyeri County Scout Commissioners, trainers, teachers and partners end of year party. During the event, Choromai promised to continually engage the Scouting team and help them achieve their goals and obligations, describing it as a noble movement that should be supported in its activities.
