Principal Secretary for the State Department of Medical Services, Mr. Harry Kimtai, hosted the Federation of Kenya Pharmaceutical Manufacturers (FKPM) alongside the Director of Health Products and Technologies. The discussion focused on government-led initiatives to promote local manufacturing of health products and technologies.
This engagement is part of the ongoing collaboration between the Ministry of Health (MoH) and FKPM to enhance Kenya’s self-sufficiency in producing essential medicines.

This initiative, in collaboration with Oracle, marks a major step in integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Big Data into Kenya’s agricultural sector. The ministry is leveraging digital innovation to drive food security, increased earnings, reduced imports, and climate change resilience. With the Big Data Centre at KALRO and a 6.4 million farmers’ database, AI will revolutionize crop monitoring, yield estimation, pest and disease prediction, and real-time data collection—ensuring smarter policy decisions and better support for our farmers.
The Ministry is committed to embracing AI as a game-changer in agriculture, with the newly formed National AI Technical Committee leading the way.
Kenya Power has set aside approximately Sh1 billion to expand electricity infrastructure in the Western Kenya region. The Company’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr Joseph Siror reported that the colossal investment is part of the efforts to enhance electricity connectivity and reliability to domestic and industrial consumers in the region. Dr Siror made the announcement during the just concluded three-day Nyanza International Investment Conference in Kisumu County. The investment covers both completed and ongoing projects covering 11 counties including Kisumu, Homa bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Siaya, Vihiga, Busia, Kericho, Bomet, and Kakamega.
The County Assembly of Embu has commenced investigations into an incident where an unattended expectant mother was forced to deliver on the floor at Kiritiri Level 4 Hospital in Mbeere South Constituency last week without medical assistance. The incident took place on Wednesday last week prompting a huge uproar from the public and subsequent suspension of the clinical officer who was on duty that night. The matter was brought to the attention of the County Legislature upon resumption from long recess on Tuesday by Muminji Ward Representative Newton Kariuki who alleged that clinical officers and other medical practitioners had left the hospital unmanned and gone on a drinking binge following a power outage.
State Department for Social Protection Principal Secretary Joseph Motari has revealed that children who spend more time on the internet are at a higher risk of cybercrimes. In a speech read on his behalf by Secretary from Directorate of Children Services Shem Nyakutu, at Machakos University during the National “Safer Internet Day Celebrations, he said that mass use of internet has amplified the production and circulation of child sexual abuse material. The PS added that while the internet can be a useful tool that helps children engage and learn, it also increases incidents of online grooming, cyber-sex trafficking, sexting and cyber bullying and urged parents, teachers, child protection officers and policy makers to unite and help create a safer internet for children.
