Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Gender and Affirmative Action, Ann Wang’ombe, has decried rising incidents of gender-based violence in the Mt. Kenya region, citing femicide as the leading menace. She called on parents and church leaders to sensitise men that women are not “lesser” human beings, saying the perception has largely contributed to the femicide currently being experienced in various parts of the country. She advised married couples to resolve their issues whenever they have differences instead of resorting to violence that sometimes ends up in death. She also urged people to register with SHA and also to take advantage of government funds through WEF and NGAAF to empower themselves and realise development.

Youthful Nyeri businessman and philanthropist King’ori Wanjohi has called on youngsters not to shy from taking challenges, which have been a reserve of the senior citizens like political seats. Wanjohi, who is aspiring to be the next Senator for Nyeri County, says time is ripe for the youth to lead the country. To succeed in life, he says, never pay attention to your destiny detractors, their noise of discouragement is a sign of their failures. If he succeeds, he will take over from Wahome Wamatinga who is widely expected to contest the area gubernatorial seat, currently held by Dr Mutahi Kahiga who is serving his last term.
Kakamega Nurses Union Secretary Eliud Molenje announced the suspension of the planned strike, citing successful negotiations. On addressing staff shortages, 37 nurses were recruited in December 2024, and 84 positions were also advertised, awaiting shortlisting for interviews. The county government has also committed to engaging with the National Treasury on lifting the ban to honour the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) salary structure of the 2024 phase 2 implementation. He also said that the county government has committed to absorbing Universal Health Coverage (UHC) nurses this year, during the replacement of staff who have exited service. KNUN National Chief Trustee Henry Adolan commended the county for addressing key concerns, emphasising the importance of dialogue for conflict resolution.
State Department for Trade Principal Secretary Alfred K’ombudo has urged traders in the Lake Region to leverage the European Union’s Economic Partnership Agreement (EU EPA) to access the expansive $16 trillion market. The EPA, which was signed on 18th December 2023, he said, presented a golden opportunity for farmers, traders, and businesses in the agriculturally rich region to reap big through exporting their produce to the 27 countries of the European Union (EU). Through the agreement, the PS said, traders would enjoy duty-free, quota-free access to the EU market for Kenyan primary products and all the manufactured products, which were not allowed to enter the EU market in the previous framework.
