Stakeholders donated building materials for the expansion of Thika’s law courts and registry, boosting plans to establish a High Court. The Law Society of Kenya, Thika Chapter, and local business community praised the gesture as a result of good working relationships with court management. The establishment of the High Court would bring justice closer to the people and improve service delivery.
Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has included Kiambu Community Health Promoters (CHPs) in the county workforce, providing them with a salary of Sh5,000 each. The move was welcomed by the governor when he unveiled the Universal Health Care (UHC) Kiambu County, ‘Kiambu Afya’. Over 3000 CHPs have been volunteers without remuneration or support.
Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has launched Community Health Kits for Nyeri’s Community Health Promoters (CHPs) following the launch of the Community Health Promoters programme by President William Ruto. The kits will be distributed to each CHP, overseeing 100 households, to enhance primary healthcare. The kits include a Salter Scale, Backpack bag, Reflector jacket, MUAC tapes, Digital Thermometer, Glucometer, blood collection pen, blood lancet, test strips, BP Machine, CHP Badge, Weighing Scale, Timer, Flashlight, Torch, Water Bottle, Medicine Book, Reusable Waste bag, Pocket Sharps Container, and a First Aid box. The kits will empower CHPs to better perform their roles in community health. The County Government and the National Government have also trained CHPs with an Electronic Community Health Information System (e-CHIS) tablet.
Farmers in Nyeri County are advised to be patient as the country awaits the onset of El Nino rains. The County Director of Meteorological Services, Mr. John Muiruri, has told farmers not to panic due to the delay in the rains but to continue preparing their lands for planting. The El Nino phenomenon is expected to be gradual before picking up in intensity as the days progress. The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) report indicates that the whole country is likely to experience enhanced rainfall, driven by warmer than average Sea Surface Temperatures (SSTs) over the central and eastern equatorial Pacific Ocean. Nyeri is one of the counties expected to experience heavy rains throughout the three-month cycle. The United Nations Meteorological Organisation warned the world to prepare for the adverse effects of El Nino, stating that the weather phenomenon which triggers higher global temperatures will persist throughout this year.
Mama Ngina Gardens Recreational Park in Thika is set to undergo a major transformation after the Kiambu County Government launched a leisure park beautification and transformation programme. The county-funded initiative aims to create safe spaces for residents to enjoy nature and fresh air, aiming to improve their physical and mental wellness. The park, previously known as Chokora Park, is being rehabilitated to create a modern, beneficial environment for locals and visitors. The project includes establishing a green lawn, graveling walkways, planting trees, and constructing a public restroom. The county government has partnered with Thika Water and Sewerage Company to ensure water availability and proper hygiene standards.
