Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki yesterday attended a church service in Karima, Ndia Constituency, Kirinyaga County. The DP later presided over the ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of the AIPCA Chapel in the area.
This is the first visit to the county since he was elevated from Cabinet Secretary Interior to Deputy President to replace the ousted Rigathi Gachagua. He was accompanied by Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Andrew Karanja, Ndia MP George Kariuiki, Githinji Gichumu (Gichugu), Wainana Njoroge (Kieni), Karuria Njoroge (Gatundu North), and Kirinyaga County leadership. Also present was Dr Thuo Mathenge, the Nyeri politician and The New Democrats (TND) political party chairman who was on Friday appointed as Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organisation (Kalro) chairman.
Parents and guardians in Murang’a County are being encouraged to introduce their children to the game of chess, particularly during school holidays, to help foster mental development, discipline, and time management.
Carol Wambui, Chairperson of the Murang’a Chess Club, emphasized the numerous benefits chess offers in developing strategic thinking and problem-solving skills among children. According to Wambui, chess enhances cognitive abilities by requiring children to think critically and plan their moves carefully before acting.
Since its founding in 2020, the club has seen tremendous growth, with over 25 children joining the Warlords team. These children have had the opportunity to participate in both national and international tournaments, showcasing the club’s success in nurturing talent.
“We started with one student in 2020, and now we have 25 children actively involved, some of whom have represented us globally. Chess is not just a game—it’s a tool for mental development,” Wambui said. However, Wambui noted that some families perceive chess as a sport for the wealthy, calling on parents and guardians from all socioeconomic backgrounds to debunk the misconception and introduce their children to the sport.
Christmas will come early for Rhumba fans as legendary Congolose musician Koffi Olomode is set to perform in Kisumu City on December 14th. The show dubbed Mzuqa Fest will also see some of the biggest Luo music artistes thrill fans in the lakeside city as the Christmas festivities set in.
Those lined up to curtain raise for Olomide include Prince Inda, Apesi, and Madanje Perimeter. Also lined up is the celebrated Zaiko Langa Langa band and a host of other upcoming local artistes.
The show to be held at the 30,000-seater Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium in Mamboleo has generated a lot of excitement amongst Rhumba fans.
Part of the exhibition stands at Kabarnet Public Park, which hosted the inaugural two-day Baringo Business and Innovation Summit attended by Principal Secretary (PS) State Department of MSMEs Susan Mangeni, her ICT counterpart Eng John Tanui, and president of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce Dr Erick Rutto. Baringo County is set to host a regional entrepreneurship centre, which will be among six satellite commercial hubs that are being set up by the government countrywide.

Eng Tanui said his department is in discussion with the Public Service Commission to unlock opportunities for Technical and Vocational Education (TVET) graduates because of their skills and capabilities. Tanui revealed that plans were underway to construct two pilot digital hubs within the county early next year, and it will be completed within four months so that it will open online opportunities for the youth.He said they are banking on the young people to take this digital era to the next level where they can engage in the space to earn money. Former national health insurer, National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) Chief Executive Officer Geoffrey Gitau Mwangi yesterday joined faithful at P.C.E.A Everbest Parish in Molo, Nakuru constituency where the service was officiated by Rt. Rev. Thegu Mutahi and graciously hosted by Rev. Mercy Karanu. He took time to explain his vision for the county where he intends to serve the residents as their next governor. The locals pledged to support his bid, when the time comes.
