Nyeri County Governor Dr Mutahi Kahiga has been elected as an Executive Committee member of The East Africa County and Local Governments Association ( EACLGA). Dr Kahiga got the position where he will be representing the Council of Governors during the eighth EACGLA forum in Kampala, Uganda.
Other members are; Association des Communes du Burundi (ACO-Burundi), Association of Local Authorities of Tanzania, County Assemblies Dorum- Kenya( CAF), Rwanda Association of Local Government Authorities RALGLA), Ufanda Local Governments Association ( ULGA) and Urban Authorities Association of Uganda( UAAU).
The Senate Standing Committee on Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, led by chairperson and Kirinyaga County Senator Kamau Murango convened a meeting with the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and irrigation to review progress and address gaps in the implementation of their agenda and possible cooperation and collaboration. Opening the session, Sen Murango underscored the Committee’s critical role in providing oversight and shaping legislative frameworks to strengthen Kenya’s water sanitation and irrigation sector. He emphasized that the Committee would collaborate with the Ministry’s State Departments and its agencies to prioritise policies and programmes that enhance sustainable resource management and benefit communities especially those with dire need of food and water .
Cabinet Secretary Eric Mugaa highlighted various government-funded and even international funded projects and ongoing programmes across the country, which the Committee scrutinised to ensure value for money, sustainability, and equitable distribution of benefits. Senators reiterated their commitment to ensuring accountability and advocating for reforms aimed at unlocking the full potential of Kenya’s water sanitation and irrigation sector.

The Ministry of Health is urging Kenyans to register for the Social Health Authority (SHA) to ensure access to affordable and quality healthcare services. Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni, emphasized the issue during special Sabbath services at Satellite Newlife SDA Church in Kawangware and Riruta East SDA Church. Ms. Muthoni highlighted the transformative impact of SHA registration, aligning with the government’s goal of achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC). She encouraged congregants to not only register but also act as ambassadors by spreading awareness within their communities.
The Principal Secretary reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to partnering with faith-based organizations to ensure equitable access to healthcare for all.
Tea Board of Kenya (TBK) in collaboration with Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO), Tea Research Institute, Kenya Tea Development Agency Holdings Limited, Independent Tea Procucers Association of Kenya, and East African Tea Trade Association is leading a farmer-centered sensitization campaign to restore tea quality and improve farmers’ earnings in the West of Rift region. Ten farmers will be selected from the listed factories and trained to train others on;
Farm management, pruning, fertilization, plucking, tea handling, transportation and pricing. The training will be conducted in two phases; from tomorrow to Friday and from Monday to Friday next at Momul Tea Factory.
