Nyeri County Deputy Governor David Kìnanirì Warùì yesterday officially opened a sensitization workshop for the County Program Implementation Unit (CPIU) under the Second Kenya Devolution Support Program (KDSP II).
Its implementation in the county has been ongoing since March 2024 and is spearheaded by dedicated officers drawn from county departments, tasked to oversee its execution and serve in different committees. It is intended to strengthen county performance in the financing, management, coordination, and accountability of resources. There are 2 committees and one unit that are mandated to ensure that KDSP II will be a resounding success.
The two committees are the County Program Steering Committee (CPSC) chaired by the Governor Dr Mutahi Kahiga and the County Program Technical Committee (CPTC) chaired by the County Secretary Benjamin Gachichio. We also have the County Program Implementation Unit (CPIU) chaired by the Program Coordinator.

Deputy President Prof Kithure Kindiki yesterday at his official residence in Karen met with the Kakamega County representatives in the Senate and the National Assembly: Dr. Bonny Khalwale (Senator), Emanuel Wangwe (Navakholo), Bernard Shinali (Ikolomani), Nabii Nabwera (Lugari), Malulu Injendi (Malava), Christopher Aseka (Khwisero), Peter Nabulindo (Matungu), Tindi Mwale (Butere), Fred Ikana (Shinyalu) and Innocent Mugabe (Likuyani) where they discussed and engage on expedition of ongoing government projects and enhanced the interface with political leaders for the good of the entire nation. The DP noted that to realise the economic transformation agenda for our citizens, leaders must forge nationhood, focus on what unites kenyans and enhance the balance between the sub-national and the national agenda.
The Training of Trainers (TOTs) on the coffee value chain under the National Agriculture Value Chain Development Project (NAVCDP) is on its second day both at Food Crop Research Centre – Embu and Agricultural Training Center – Kisii. The week-long training is conducted by research scientists from KALRO’s Coffee Research Institute from Sunday to Saturday.
Coffee being one of the value chains under the NAVCDP project, will cover 34 counties under coffee with activities including, setting up of On-Farm demonstration of mother trial sites. Baby trial sites from mother trials will be set on farmer’s farms who will consent by signing an agreement. The five-year project will include one field day annually. The training methods include presentations and practical sessions to demonstrate coffee management practices from land preparation to coffee processing. These are organized to help achieve the project’s general goal of increasing market participation and value addition for value addition for targeted farmers in selected value chains in project areas.
Principal Secretary for the State Department for Irrigation, CPA Ephantus Kimotho yesterday hosted a courtesy visit from a delegation of Nexus Green, led by John Thuo, the Country Representative.
During the meeting, they discussed opportunities for technology and knowledge sharing in Kenya, particularly in the areas of irrigation and food security. The PS emphasized the significance of leveraging regional experience and the Tana River schemes as a platform to enhance food production. He reiterated his commitment to collaborating with industry leaders and experts to build capacity and achieve the government’s vision of food sufficiency and national food security.

Their expertise aligns with the government’s efforts to integrate innovative and environmentally friendly solutions in irrigation systems.
