Laikipia county Governor Joshua Irungu has announced that the children of inmates serving their sentences at correctional facilities within Laikipia County will automatically qualify for education bursary scholarships. Speaking during a visit at the three local Correctional facilities; Nanyuki GK remand, Rumuruti and Nyahururu prisons, the governor pledged to honour the requests of the inmates to consider their children’ education. He assured the inmates to whom he had donated Christmas gifts that their children would be given priority since the parents serving jail terms had no means of income and his administration was willing to help out in their education.
Poor feeding has been termed as one of major factors causing stunting and underweight among children below five years in the country. Dr. Kairo Kimende of Equihealth Global highlighted that 26 percent of children in Kenya experience stunted growth and malnutrition due to poor feeding. Speaking during a free medical camp that targeted children at Kambirwa health centre in Murang’a county, Dr. Kimende said stunting and malnutrition stands at 10 percent in the area. He said poor attendance of mothers to postnatal clinics makes them miss nutrition information, which is key to growth of their children.

The government plans to connect at least 10 million customers to the electricity grid by the year 2025, the Principal Secretary in the State Department for Energy under the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum Alex Wachira has revealed. He said about 9,765,000 million Kenyans were already connected to the power grid as the Ministry was working to connect more than 25,000 Kenyans by next year as the country gradually moves towards attaining 100 per cent electricity connectivity The by the year 2030. The PS spoke in Gikamba sub-location, Kieni Nyeri county where he supervised the implementation of the last mile connectivity programme by the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC). During the exercise, about 314 homes were connected with electricity with Wachira terming the commissioning as the perfect Christmas gift for the residents who have not had electricity for more than 50 years.
