Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Saturday hosted lawyer cum Othaya politician Patrick Ngunjiri at his Wamunyoro residence in Mathira constituency.
Gachagua said that Ngunjiri who is also known as Wakili Wa Machani and a former KTDA Company Secretary offered his time and expertise especially on the legal matters ahead as well as in regard to brainstorming on various decisions he will be making this year. Ngunjiri, who is aspiring to be the next Othaya MP said the meeting was very insightful and he learnt a lot from the former DP.
Police officers from Kerugoya Police Station on Saturday celebrated their annual party after it was delayed from December 25 as the government prioritized the security of residents during Christmas. The event, attended by top county police officials and community leaders, celebrated the dedication and hard work by men in uniform as well the critical role the community plays in security. In his speech, Kirinyaga County Police Commander Adrew Naibei, who was chief guest, noted that the cordial relationship between National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs) and the police has been perfect leading to improved security across the county.
He thanked the business community for its support, saying it has helped bridge some security lapses, and urged Kerugoya residents to seek services from the local police station. He also encouraged community engagement for the sake of collaborative efforts against crime.
A Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) student is appealing for financial help from well-wishers and people of goodwill after running into financial challenges in paying his academic fees following his admission last year at the campus under the quashed university funding model.
Gedion Kiptoo, 19, a first year Paramedic Science student at MMUST risks dropping out after not being able to raise the required amount for his second semester after he successfully appealed his placement band managing to secure Band Two.
Speaking at his home in Telanet village within Ainamoi sub-county in Kericho, the first born in a family of three said he initially applied for the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) loan following his admission at the campus on 29 August 2024 but was surprised to find his placement in the Band Four category despite coming from a needy background. He added that he undertook the necessary steps to appeal and confirmed that his case was successful and managed to receive a Band Two placement adding that his mother the breadwinner of the family managed to raise the required fees through a church donation securing his admission.
As the country is emerging from the festive period SBM Kenya Bank has joined hands with other stakeholders to redouble their efforts in Sea Turtle Conservation in Diani Beach through beach clean-up. The beaches bore the brunt of the epoch as most activities took place contributing to plastic and other debris that have a negative impact on the marine ecosystems. To ease garbage collection in Diani Beach and to maintain a clean environment the SBM Bank donated a Turtle shaped waste disposal structure. The bank is keen to extend Diani’s foothold as one of the cleanest beaches in the world.
Community Health Promoters (CHPs) in Kericho County have been urged to intensify their efforts in registering residents for the Social Health Authority (SHA) program. Speaking on Friday during a consultative meeting at Kiprugut Chumo Stadium, Kericho Governor Dr. Eric Mutai disclosed that so far, Kericho County has registered a total of 200, 947 people under the programme representing 22.28 per cent of the population. Governor Mutai has called on the 1,500 Community Health Promoters in the county to adopt a more proactive approach this year, emphasizing the need to register more residents to access essential medical services across various levels of health facilities.
Dr. Mutai commended the CHPs for their good work, noting they are the cornerstones of primary healthcare networks, which is a critical pillar in the provision of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
