Residents of Nyaribari Chache and Nyaribari Masaba addressing press
By Elizabteh Angira
Residents of Nyaribari Chache and Nyaribari Masaba have distanced themselves from Deputy Governor Robert Monda’s recent move to join those opposing UDA leaders in the county leadership.
This clarification came after a group of Kisii leaders held a strategic meeting at Deputy Governor Monda’s residence in the absence of Governor Simba Arati.
Deputy Governor Monda, hailing from Nyaribari Chache, hosted Majority Chief Whip Sylvanus Osoro, Senator Richard Onyonka, Japhet Nyakundi (Kitutu Chache North), Daniel Manduku (Nyaribari Masaba), and Woman Rep Donya Dorice Toto for dinner, with the agenda undisclosed.
In a press statement, the leaders expressed their displeasure, stating that they were not consulted by Deputy Governor Monda regarding his decision to join a political camp they deemed anti-development and anti-government.
Melzedeck Ratemo, reading the statement, emphasized that the deputy governor must consult with the Nyaribari people and the people of Kisii County before making any political decisions.
During the event, Osoro mentioned that Deputy Governor Monda expressed deep disappointment with the absorption of development funds in the devolved unit.
However, the leaders criticized Monda for going against Governor Kisii Arati, whom they believe has the county’s best interests at heart.
They disassociated themselves and the entire Nyaribari community from Deputy Governor Monda’s move, emphasizing that it was a personal decision not representative of Nyaribari residents.
The leaders reiterated their support for Governor Arati and encouraged him to continue with his development agenda for the county.
The leaders called on UDA leadership, including South Mugirango MP Silvenus Osoro, Senator Onyonka, Woman Rep Dorice Donya, and Deputy Governor Monda, to stop opposing Governor Arati and allow him to serve the people.
They demanded Deputy Governor Monda to clarify his stance within 24 hours, questioning whether he had defected or resigned from his role.
