The Nyeri County Assembly chambers

The County Assembly of Nyeri has unanimously approved the names of all the seven CECs, which were forwarded to the assembly by Governor Mutahi Kahiga last month.
The members of the county assembly noted that all the CECs who were serving in Governor Kahiga’s administration before his re-election on the 9th August general election were suitable and are capable of doing their work diligently.
Majority Leader James Kanyugo who tabled the motion said the report of the Committee on Appointment recommended that all the nominees met the conditions required as per the law.
Kirimukuyu MCA Anthony Ndagita supported the motion saying that all the nominees qualified to serve for the next five years as they met all the expectations of the people of Nyeri adding that 16 out of 30 MCAs were re-elected due to their effort and that of the governor.
Nominated MCA Janet Kamiru noted that each nominee had clarity of issues and they were able to articulate issues and were ready to serve Nyerians.
Another nominated MCA Fidelis Kanene while supporting the motion said the nominees are ready to work even better in the second term.
Karanja Maina, also a nominated MCA noted that the CECs have done a commendable job in the past and equal to the task as the county has regularly been ranked position one nationally and so there is need for consistency of work.
Ruring’u ward MCA Samuel Kariuki urged members to be realistic and let CECs continue with their work.
Other MCAs Kiruga Thuku, Agnes Wachira, Cyrus Ndiritu and Sebastian Mugo said the motion had to be quickly passed so that the CECs continue with their work.
Speaker of the County Assembly Gichuhi Mwangi said the Clerk of the Assembly Jenard Mwiggeh was to officially communicate to the governor.
The 7 CECs are Robert Thuo (Finance, Economic Planning and ICT), James Wachihi (Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries), Margaret Macharia (Education), Ndirangu Gachunia (County Public Service and Public Administration), Diana Kendi (Trade, Culture and Tourism), Esther Ndung’u (Gender, Youth, Social Services and Sports) and Fredrick Wanjohi (Water, Environment and Solid Waste Management).
