Nyeri County Government head of Treasury Robert Thuo yesterday presented a Sh8 billion budget estimates for the next financial year.
Thuo presented the proposals to the local County Assembly during a session that was also attended by Governor Mutahi Kahiga, his deputy David Kinaniri and other senior officials from the government. Speaker Gichuhi Mwangi led Assembly officials in welcoming and hosting the team.
The budget estimates for the 2023/24 amounts to Sh8,048,278,680.
Out of this, the Recurrent budget is Sh5.63 billion and the Development budget is Sh2.41 billion which translates to 70% and 30% respectively.
According to the Finance and Economic Planning head, the county budget estimates will be derived from three sources as follows; Equitable Share – Sh6.4 billion, Loans and Grants – Sh738.3 million and County’s own source revenue – Sh800 million.
The budget will be linked to the following five key sectors which are; Agriculture and rural development, General economics and Commerce Affairs, Infrastructure, Energy, Rural and Urban0 Development, Public Administration and Governance and Social services.

Also in the list are Refurbishing paedriatic ward, ward 1, equipping various units and solar installation at PGH Hospital – Sh18 Million, Refurbishment of Non-Residential Buildings, installation of modern incinerator and completion of emergency unit at Karatina Hospital – Sh.55 Million, Completion of OPD block, perimeter fencing and refurbishment of non-residential buildings at Mukurweini hospital- Sh18.5 Million, Construction of a wall and a gate, refurbishment works at Mt. Kenya hospital – Sh.8 Million, Refurbishment of non-residential buildings at Othaya hospital – Sih.2 Million and Purchase of medical equipment and improvement of rural health facilities – Sh.49 Million.
Further, the county government will use the funds for; Purchase of empowerment equipment – Sh.45.2 Million, Sports development and purchase of sports equipment – Sh27.2 Million, Disaster management and social welfare – Sh.27.7 Million, Improvement of staff working environment in public service department – Sh16 Million, Solid waste management – Sh.l49.5 Million, Agricultural Materials, Supplies and Small Equipment purchase – Sh28.3 Million, Construction of the Governor’s Official Residence – Sh26 Million, Purchase of Deputy Governors official vehicle – Sh13 Million and Purchase of ICT and communication equipment Sh1.5Million
The government also intenda to use funds for Repair of Town hall Security Wall, construction of carport and shade area – Sh4.8 Million, Boundary fencing of Karatina town hall including construction of a sentry and a gate – Sh5 Million, Boundary fencing of Othaya Sub County Offices – Sh.2 Million, Equipping of the ward offices – Sh3 Million, Refurbishment of Offices – Sh20 Million, Networking & Cabling (Internet connectivity in the county, WAN & LAN) – Sh15 Million, Solid waste management; Fuel for Garbage collection trucks – Sh8.5 Million, Planning of a market in Aguthi Gaaki, and colonial villages in the County – Shh4.5 Million and
Maintenance of garbage collection vehicles – Sh5 Million.
In addition, some funds will be utilized through Construction of a new septic tank in Mukurwe-ini Estate – Sh2.5 Million, Procurement of mineral rich beans, Fruit tree seedlings Irish potato seeds, other farm inputs and equipment –Sh15.2 Million, Livestock activities – Sh.103 Million,
Support for Veterinary services – Sh26.1 Million,
Aquaculture development activities– Sh.30.2 Million,
Value addition to agricultural produce – Sh348 Million and
Cooperatives development – Shh.19 Million.
