The Kenya National Police DT Sacco leadership held a strategic briefing with the Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Development, Wycliffe Oparanya, to discuss the government’s vision for the cooperative sector.
During the meeting, Oparanya outlined key government strategies aimed at strengthening cooperatives in Kenya.
Speaking at the meeting, Oparanya emphasized the critical role that Saccos play in promoting financial inclusion and economic empowerment for their members. He highlighted the government’s commitment to fostering a favorable environment for the growth and sustainability of cooperative societies, particularly in the security sector.
“Cooperatives are a crucial pillar in driving the MSMEs sector and fostering economic development. We are working on policies that will ensure cooperatives, including SACCOs like the Kenya National Police DT SACCO, have the necessary support to thrive,” said Oparanya.
Among the key issues discussed were the digital transformation of Sacco operations, efforts to increase capital mobilization, and initiatives to expand Sacco membership, particularly among young people. The CS also outlined the government’s plans to introduce financial literacy programs targeting Sacco members to improve their economic resilience.
The Kenya National Police DT Sacco leadership lauded the government’s commitment, noting that the Sacco has grown tremendously over the years and continues to serve thousands of police officers and their families across the country.
The Sacco also presented its roadmap for the future, focusing on expanding services and enhancing the welfare of its members.
The meeting underscored the importance of collaboration between the government and Saccos in driving socioeconomic development.
