OPEN LETTER TO MCAS IN MERU COUNTY

Meru County Assembly

Dear Honorable Members of the Meru County Assembly,

As representatives of the people, you have a crucial responsibility to ensure effective governance and service delivery in Meru County. However, in the case of Governor Kawira Mwangaza, I urge you to consider giving her more time to address the concerns raised and work towards fulfilling her manifesto commitments.

Governor Mwangaza is a first-term leader facing significant challenges, including allegations of misconduct and a tumultuous political landscape. While it is understandable that you, as the county assembly, have a legislative duty to provide oversight and hold the executive accountable, repeated impeachment attempts may not be the most constructive approach.

I acknowledge that the governor’s actions have raised legitimate concerns among the public and the assembly. However, it is crucial to remember that she was democratically elected by the people of Meru County to lead and implement her vision for the county’s development. Removing her from office prematurely may undermine the will of the electorate and create further instability in the county’s governance.

Instead of pursuing impeachment, I propose that the county assembly and the governor engage in constructive dialogue to address the issues at hand. This could involve setting clear benchmarks and timelines for the governor to address specific concerns, such as appointing necessary board chairpersons, ensuring proper financial management, and improving service delivery. Regular progress reviews and open communication between the assembly and the governor’s office can help foster a collaborative working relationship.

Furthermore, I urge the assembly to consider the broader implications of repeated impeachment attempts. Meru County is facing significant challenges, including water scarcity, healthcare deficiencies, and the need for economic development. These issues require a united front and a focus on finding solutions rather than engaging in political battles.

In conclusion, I appeal to the members of the Meru County Assembly to give Governor Kawira Mwangaza more time to address the concerns raised and work towards fulfilling her manifesto commitments. By engaging in constructive dialogue and focusing on the county’s development priorities, you can set an example of responsible leadership and demonstrate your commitment to the people of Meru County.

Sincerely,

James Kilonzo Bwire is a Media and Communication student at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology kakamega.
