Over 500 patients from Chuka in Tharaka Nithi County suffering from different illnesses benefited from a free medical camp organised by ASA international Kenya Limited in collaboration with Lions Eye Hospital Nairobi held at PCEA Church, Chuka town.
According to ASA international Kenya Limited deputy managing director Mohammad Hassan Habib, the exercise funded through their corporate social responsibility kitty is aimed at helping their clients and community at large have good health countrywide.
In our corporate social responsibility fund, we have a budgetary allocation every year which we distribute to various communities in Kenya and today we are here at Chuka with our partners from Lions FastSight eye Hospital. They are helping us in eye screening, dental sevices,blood sugar and pressure monitoring at ASA’s cost to make sure our clients and community has good health,’’ he said.
Moses Kariuki an outreach officer from Lions Sight First Eye Hospital said patients who required further and specialised check-up like those with eye cataracts will be booked at their facility for free surgery and other treatments.
Kariuki noted that the turn up for the camp turned overwhelming and hinted that plans are underway for frequent such medical camps in the region to reach out more patients who may need the services.
Kariuki also called out residents with medical needs to turn out when such exercises are announced as they are rarely conducted.

It is an exercise that was well received by residents from Chuka and its environs who termed it as a big boost especially now that the economy is becoming harsh day by day.
For instance, Millicent who had come to seek the services from Chogoria with eyes complications told Mt.Kenya Times that she was glad that she had been treated for free and was now feeling some improvements.
This was the same case with John from Chuka who was able to get eyeglasses following his sight problems and said he had fully re-gained his eye sight.
ASA a micro finance company with 123 branches countrywide has been offering financial services to small business owners to enable them grow and lead financial stable lives.
